Large Animals: Large Animals:
As a wildlife photographer, my challenge is to reveal animals in motion—the balance between energy and stillness that defines this genre. Whether an animal is charging, grazing, resting, or alert, each moment holds meaning, and each photograph seeks to capture that tension between power and pause.
Whether roaming Yellowstone, the high deserts of Arizona, or the Inside Passage of Alaska, these animals embody the wild heart of the North American continent. Their presence shapes the landscapes they inhabit, and their movements echo rhythms far older than human history.
Some of these magnificent animals—each of them mammals—are carnivores (including orcas and coyotes); others, such as deer and elk, are herbivores. In a few protected regions where large, connected landscapes remain relatively free from the pressures of civilization, these animals can live as they always have. There, not just individuals but herds, packs, and pods continue their lives with minimal human intrusion, offering rare opportunities to observe wildlife on its own terms.
From coastal waters to inland plains and forests, these mammals inhabit very different environments, yet share a presence defined by scale, strength, and continuity.

Large Animals: Power and Presence in the Wild
by wilcephotos
Capturing the majesty of North America’s largest mammals, whether shaking the earth or making a splash, these photographs explore the strength and grace that shape the landscapes they inhabit through cycles of energy and stillness. They are the wild heart of the continent. This gallery reflects soul-moving experiences with bison in Yellowstone National Park and Western South Dakota, and orcas and sea lions in Alaska. Closer to home, and given ongoing habitat loss, deer, elk, and coyotes speak deeply to the heart, stirring something humans share, calling for the best fine-art photography.
